The echo of the tragic peasant uprising in the spring of 1907 has grown blurred after a century. The events were presented in different lights and shadows, the politics of the past regimes giving their own interpretation of the facts. In the present text, we refer to the events from Pungeşti, a townlet on the valley of the Racova brook, in Vaslui county. Like any Moldavian urban place at that time, Pungeşti was inhabited mostly by Jews. The peasants were interrogated for more than a month, between the 4th of April and the 7th of May. As far as I know, the facts presented here are unpublished, and they come from the interrogation reports found in the National Archives in Vaslui county.
