Introduction: Intrauterine growth restriction is an important public health problem in both developing and industrially developed countries. Diagnosis and management of fetal growth restriction cases remain a challenge of the current obstetrics due to variable diagnostic criteria, non-standardized monitoring methods, the absence of therapeutic solutions, the diff erent impact that diff erent risk factors have on each gestational age. Th e major challenge in this cases consists in diff erentiating the growth restricted fetus (aff ected) from a constitutionally (genetically) small. choosing the time of birth with the best predictable neonatal prognosis. Purpose: to present a literature review on the topic of intrauterine growth restriction based on last-minute international protocols. Methods and materials: research in international databases by applying in the MedLine search systems, Web of Science keywords - fetal intrauterine growth restriction, fetal retardation, 10th percentile, fetal growth charts. Results: taking into the consideration the high perinatal morbidity and mortality caused by the fetal growth restriction the international obstetric society through the protocols ISUOG, RCOG, ACOG, CNGOF, NZMFMN, MRCPI, SOGC comes with a series of recommendations that would allow the diagnosis of fetal growth restriction and the optimal management of these cases. Th ese changes start from the substitution of term the intrauterine growth retardation by the term fetal growth restriction, continue with the proposal to change the classifi cation of fetal intrauterine growth restriction, to perform the prophylaxis of vascular complications in pregnancy by aspirin administration, and result in the unanimous acceptance of the Delphi criteria for establishing the diagnosis of fetal growth restriction. |
