The word „probation” is used as an international term, which surpasses the language or juridical system differences. In a historic-chronological order, „probation” is one of the first intermediary communitarian sanctions regulated as an alternative measure to the privative of liberty sanction. From etymological point of view, the „probation” term comes from the Latin „probatio” – period of trying. Those convicted that have demonstrated along the established period the desire to change, by the accomplishment of the imposed conditions, are forgiven and released. No matter the definitions given to the probation, the keywords that result from the characterization of this institution are „social reintegration“ and „surveillance“, which means control and assistance. |
