As to the Caragea Law, we mention the fact that most of it is an abbreviation of the Textbook of Laws of the well-known Byzantine lawyer elaborated in 1345, a work based mostly on the compilation of laws of the Byzantine emperor Leon VI the Philosopher (886-912). But, the Caragea Law has many original parts. Presented in a simple form, it comprises many short dispositions, but also general law principles. The specialists appreciate the charm and beauty of the Greek language, but the authors of the Law tried to express as exactly as possible the juridical notions in Romanian, the text representing an important stage in the formation and development of Romanian in the field of law. |
