The article refers to the dietary habits of the population of Moldova in the 16th century - the beginning of the 19th century, namely the consumption of fishery products (fish, crustaceans and mollusks) and seafood. The sources show the frequent consumption of fish and other fishery products in the alimentation of the population of Moldova. We can assume that in the villages in the Danubian areas, on the banks of the large rivers, lakes, fish was the basic food. The fish could be used as a component of soups, but also as a separate dish, being baked, roasted, salted or smoked. Other dishes were prepared from caviar, crayfish and mollusks. Fishery products, molluscs and crustaceans were filling the peasants’ poor menu, being an additional source of nutrition, important during fasting, which was followed sacredly, but possibly also in times of famine. |
