The notion of „space debris” is applied to all man-made objects, as well as their small fragments, which are located in outer space and never be able to function or serve any useful purpose, but which represent a hazard impact on the functioning of the spacecraft. The problem of pollution of the near-Earth environment „space debris” theoretically appeared immediately after the launch of the first satellites in 50-ies of XX century. However, this problem has received an official status at the international level only after UN Secretary-General in his report on „The impact of space activities on the environment” pointed out the international and the global nature of space debris. The report was presented on December 10, 1993. |
