Relations between the Kingdom of Romania and Russia were strained after 1878, when Russia took the three southern districts of Bessarabia, although guarantee the territorial integrity of Romania following the convention of 1877. The year 1914 was marked by an important event the visit of Russian imperial family to Constanta. This visit was an important event for Romania and the resumption of diplomatic relations with Russia. Tsar Nicholas II was accompanied by the Empress of Russia, the Grand Duchess Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia and Crown Prince on board yacht „Standard”. The press granted particular attention to this visit. Romanian newspapers have written many articles on Russian Tsar travel to Romania, considering an important event for the foreign policy of King Charles I. Russian newspapers have described the importance of this visit for relations between the two countries. French newspapers found this visit a milestone for Romania reorientation towards the Entente. AustroGerman newspapers considered this visit a way to attract Romania to Russia, despite past tense relations. |
