This essay is an attempt to approach Paul Goma’s novel „The Dog’s Soldier”. It contains some of the author’s impressions after the reading of the book: the exile’s chronotop transposed into the chronotop of the writing, the topographic and mental dialectics of the subject (Bessarabia - Romania – France). The central idea of the essay is that the dictatorship expels and at the same time accompanies in freedom, undermining the last one. The absurdity of the life eclipsed by the totalitarianism – this is the great theme of the book and of this metatext.
