The first commercial banks in Odessa and Chisinau existed less than 10 years and worked in difficult conditions in the 70s of nineteenth century because of prolonged crisis Tsarist Russia went through. Lack of effective credit management policies of these banks also had disastrous consequences for the banking institutions. The situation of these commercial banks worsened over the last year of activity, when the government banks and some owners have encouraged their collapse, aiming to obtain additional personal profits. As a consequence, both banks were declared bankrupt in 1878 and ceased operations.
