Rezumat

The European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova have appeared since 1994, when the Cooperation and Partnership Agreement with the EU (28 November 1994) and the Moldova-EU Neighborhood Policy Action Plan were signed (22 February 2005). The coming to power of President Maia Sandu and his party (PAS), with a pro-European program and orientation assumed, created a particularly favorable internal political context and radically changed Moldova’s relations with Euro-Atlantic bodies. This situation, as well as prioritizing the geo-strategic interests of the US and the EU in the Black Sea region, following the outbreak of Russia’s war against Ukraine (24 February 2022), they created the unique context for the Republic of Moldova to approach, in an unexpectedly short time, as much as possible to the EU, obtaining the status of candidate country, on June 23, 2022. On this occasion, the Chișinău authorities received 9 recommendations on the fulfillment of which depends on the transition of the Republic of Moldova to a new stage, respectively that of the negotiations, in the process of accession to the EU. As can be easily seen, the Chișinău authorities managed to meet, in one year, only 3 of the 9 EU recommendations, which they assumed in obtaining the status of candidate country. We believe that their optimism that the other 6 will be completed by the end of 2023 is exaggerated and less objective.
