The main role of maritime transport is a liaison between production and consumption , the primary objective being to ensure a permanent flow of raw materials to industrial production and timely move then finished products to markets and consumers. Research has shown that Romania holds only 1.5 % of total goods handled in main EU ports , but registering a growth rate above the European average of 0.1 % . Almost two -thirds of the amount of goods carried by sea in the EU (excluding Italy) have been downloaded than uploaded .The global economic crisis affected the global traffic strong but freight latter falling dramatically as a result of reduced economic activity globally.
