Rezumat

Living standards is the notion dedicated to characterizing the degree of satisfaction with material and spiritual needs of the population of a country, the social groups or individuals in terms of given production development. Despite the fact that half of the Moldovan population lives in rural areas, employment rate in rural areas is only 36%.In 2000, the employment rate in rural areas was 59%, while in 2012, it fell to 36%, showing a sharp decrease of job opportunities in rural areas. This decline was probably caused by the decrease of employment opportunities in agriculture and self-employment. The low rates of employment in rural areas are extremely caused by low salaries in agriculture compared to other sectors of the economy. Agricultural salaries have been about 60% of the national average in 2004-2012, while the people working in the service sector as a financial intermediaries gained two or three times more than the national average. Therefore, financial intermediaries gained from three to five times more than those employed in agriculture. Although these differences are decreasing, they are still significant.
