The modern interpretation of the Sarmatian Basin history and its significance for stratigraphy. The history of Sarmatian marine transgressions and regressions on the Moldavian plate of the East-European platform is reconstructed based on the hypothesis that the Sarmatian Basin was not fully closed and the salt water inflow depended of the World ocean level oscilations. Changes that appeared in the mollusc’s community composition represent a paleontological basis for a detailed
stratigraphy of Sarmatian deposits from the Alp Mts to the Aral Sea. |
