Studiul prezintă o modalitate de abordare a unui subiect ce se înscrie în istoria mentalităţilor, şi tratează modul în care imaginea germanilor din Transilvania în secolul al XX-lea poate fi reconstituită,folosindu-se mărturii orale ale românilor.Pe lângă o prezentare teoretică a rolului istoriei orale, studiul conţine şi câteva aspecte metodologice ce stau la baza cercetării, cum ar fi stabilirea localităţilor în care să se desfăşoare cercetarea, criterii de identificare şi eşantionare a martorilor,rolul ghidului de interviu şi modul în care acesta se realizează. De asemenea este prezentat integral ghidul de interviu folosit în cadrul cercetării şi sunt menţionaţi paşii ce urmează unei cercetări de teren. Studiul poate constitui un punct de plecare pentru noi cercetări ale imaginarului colectiv, care, folosind istoria orală, să vizeze şi alte tipuri de comunităţi, etnice sau religioase, din orice alt areal geografic.

The study presents a way of approaching a subject that is connected with the history of mentalities and dwells on the manner in which the representation of the German inhabitants of Transylvania in the 20th century may be recovered on the basis of the oral testimonies of the Romanians living in the region.Besides a theoretical presentation of the role of oral history, the study presents a few methodological aspects that the research is founded on, such as deciding on the places where the research is to take place, establishing the identification and selection criteria of the witnesses, the role of the interviewer’s guidebook and the way it is accomplished. The complete presentation of the interviewer’s guidebook that is to be used within the research, as well as the steps following field expedition sareal so included. The study may represent a starting point towards new researches on the collective imaginary, which, based on oral history sources, may be focused on other ethnic or religious communities from any other region of the country.
