În prezentul articol, se discută despre problema diftongului englez central /'εə/. Acest sunet compus are trăsături specifice, care îi determină statutul său în sistemul fonetic şi fonologic englez. Analiza materialelor didactice arată că dificultăţile în pronunţarea acestui sunet de către purtătorii de limbă română se datorează faptului că acest sunet nu există în sistemul fonologic al limbii române. Ţinând cont de cele menţionate, găsim că tema dată este importantă atât din punct de vedere teoretic, cât şi practic. Autorul prezintă analiza generală, articulatorie şi acustică a diftongului englez central [Рɛə].

In the article, is touched upon the issue of the English central diphthong /'εə/. This compound sound has specific features which determine its special status within the English phonetic and phonological system. An analysis of didactical materials shows that a difficulty in pronunciation of the given sound by the native speakers resides in the absence of such a sound in their languages. That is why the present theme is important both theoretically and practically. This article is a continuation of the series of our materials presented and published as conference proceedings. In this work the authors give the general, articulatory and acoustic characteristic of the English falling diphthong [׀ɛə] on the basis of the experimental data (static and dynamic x- ray). Some indications concerning teaching this diphthong, as well as asset of exercises are suggested too.
