This article discusses the conceptual bases of formation and functioning of civil society in the West and in the Republic of Moldova. The author pays particular attention to the continuity of functioning of institutions of civil society in the modern conditions of Moldova. In the article is emphasized generally and specificaly, that characterizes modern civil society in the countries with developed democracy and in the Republic of Moldova. Subjected to critical analysis, the orientation of the most mass institution of the civil society-national associations. Highlighted the pressing problems of the further revitalization of nongovernmental organizations to enhance their interaction with public authorities, public associations to minimize dependence on foreign donors. The article emphasizes the importance of using best practices in the West with the specific development of the Moldovan society.
