The Romanian Constantinopolitan relationships were of 2 kinds: political, with the Ottoman Gate as suzerain power based on laws given by the sultans with rights and obligations by both parts and the previews of the Russian-Turkish Convention of Ackerman. But along these previews there were also juridical rapports wits the patriarchal Constantinople giving it the title of Exarh, in conformity with the decree given by Mohamed the second which invested him with civil authority over all Christianity from Ottoman Empire, along the church authority. This situation lasted until the reign of Alexander I. Cuza , who through the reforms he imposed also settled the position of the church, establishing only a canonic dependence on Constantinople, giving it in this way the dignity which it could not rise by itself. |
