The article is devoted of the transition in the Sector of Finance and Banking. The political events in the Central and East Europe between the 90’s made many countries of this part of the world turn from the centralized economy to the market capitalist economy. The period of transition had a big impact on the economy of Republic of Moldova, as well. One of the sectors which suffered a lot of changes was that of banking and finance. Thus, the necessity of creating a new banking system adjusted to the international standards of the market economy based on the principles of maximum efficiency and obtaining of profits, has become obvious.
