Rezumat

We prove coincidence and common fixed points theorem for two selfmappings in complete metric spaces. Our theorem generalizes Theorem 1 of [19]. Suitable examples are provided to illustrate the validity of our results. We apply our theorem to establish the existence of common solutions of a system of two functional equations arising in dynamic programming.
