The history of culture explains the modernization of Romania since the 19th century through political, creative and external scientific factors. To these are added the even less explored internal factors. Among them, our work addresses the Romanian authors who created texts in French, the universal language of the culture during the century. Our study excludes the female contribution, on which we have focused in another work. Without pretending to exhaust the subject, we propose the identification of some categories of writers and a typology of the texts elaborated by them. Also, our research explains the motivation of the writings in French for each generation of writers and exemplifies and comments texts of the most representative among them (Asachi, Alecsandri, Russo, Bolintineanu, Kogălniceanu, Bălcescu, Carada, members of the noble families Bibescu and Brătianu, A. D. Xenopol).
