Background. While the biological effects of obesity in children are widely studied, few studies have focused on the psychological consequences of overweight children, which are even more pronounced during puberty. Materials and methods. The study included 246 children aged 10-16 years, divided into two groups according to BMI: children with normal weight (group N, n = 90) and overweight / obese children (group S, n = 156). All children answered the questions of the Peds QL 4.0 test. to determine their quality of life. Results. In children with excess weight, the quality of life index was 74.40 ± 11.35 points compared with 86.34 ± 8.26 points in children with normal weight (p<0.001). Differences between research groups were also observed for each individual component (physical, emotional, social well-being, school activity, p<0.001). 78.92% of children with normal weight assess the quality of life as high, and 70.51% of overweight children - as an average. Significant positive correlations were determined between all quality of life scales (r = 0.47-0.55), which indicates that all areas of child activity are affected. Conclusions. The quality of life of children with overweight is significantly lower than in children with normal weight on all scales (physical, emotional, social well-being, school activity). So, therapeutic impact only on physical well-being by reducing body weight will not have a positive result, complex psychoemotional therapy is necessary. The time to achieve weight normalization is also important, because with age, the effect of obesity has a cumulative effect |
