Background: child development assessment in the frame of early childhood intervention is one of the basic activities of process to establish the directions and the duration of intervention programs, identification of the most appropriate services: educational, medical, social, psychological assistance, in order to quantify the progress in development, which also can be used for scientific research. Currently, is promoted the authentic assessment of the child development that allows comparison the results of evaluated child not only with standard/norms, but certain criteria considered important in the development also. There are many initiatives to implement standardized assessment methods in Moldova, but these practices aren’t extended to the national level and not sufficiently promoted yet. Objective of the study: promoting good practices for assessment the child development and to expand their implementation. Material and methods: During 13 years of experience of Centre of Early Intervention “Voinicel” (www.voinicel.md) were implemented 17 modern methods/tools/tests for child assessment (typically developed child or child with high risk or developmental disorders), used successfully worldwide. The work was carried out based on statistical data analysis of “Voinicel” Centre, where annually are performed about 2,000 assessments on different areas of child development. Results. Interdisciplinary team of the Centre for Early Intervention “Voinicel” systematically applies standardized assessment tools for small child development, in order to offer appropriate services. Therewith results of standardized methods offer a common language between professionals from Europe and around the world. After approval of Regulation of Early Intervention Services at the national level (Government Decision no. 816 from 30 June 2016) and minimum quality standards for these services, will be done the restructuring of services intended for children with developmental disorders or disabilities in Moldova. In this context, the implementation on large-scale standardized assessment instruments for child development became the absolute necessity for new created early intervention teams. The experience of Centre “Voinicel” in this area can be multiplied. |
