Equality of citizens – one of the fundamental principles of constitutionalism and the elements of democracy, which means officially recognized the equality of citizens before the state, the court, i.e. equality of rights, freedoms and responsibilities of citizens of one state, irrespective of gender, race, nationality, language, property and official status, place of residence, religion, creed, etc. In Moldova, this principle is enshrined in Art. 16 of the Constitution of Moldova. On an example of activity of the National Institute for Women of Moldova «Equality» is described as a role of a civil society on protection of the given principle.
