Intervention of socialist states of the Warsaw Pact led by the Soviet Union, in august 1968, in Czechoslovakia was criticized and strongly condemned by the leaderships of communist states of Albania, Romania and Yugoslavia. After the invasion of Czechoslovakia, the three countries of Southeastern Europe have promoted a domestic policy establishing national communist regimes and externally distanced themselves from the USSR and established close relationships with a number of capitalist countries of Western Europe and the U.S. In the 70s of twentieth century, Romania,
Yugoslavia and Albania have promoted a distinct military doctrine designed to prevent a possible foreign military aggression. This military concept known in the West as “safe restraint” was based on supporting Western countries, and primarily the U.S., which had nuclear weapons. |
