The Kuchurgan reservoir, which is the cooling pond of the Moldavian central power station, can be characterized by a rich diversity of species and high quantitative indices of macrozoobenthos. About 370 species of parasites were detected in the organisms living in the
reservoirs, which including 40 species of nematodes, trematodes, cestodes and other parasites, involved in the life cycles of the zoobenthos. Most often, the mollusks and Oligochaeta worms
have the role of intermediate hosts of the parasites. This cooling pond has a greater diversity of parasites species in comparison to reservoirs with natural thermal regime, partially as results of
increased eutrophication and the development of abundant benthic communities. |
