The distinguished linguist, Professor Vasile Pavel, a specialist in dialectology, linguistic geography, sociolinguistics and onomasiology reaches a venerable octogenarian age. During those 55 years of prodigious scientific activity he has made fieldwork research in more than 200 towns, he published 4 monographs, numerous articles (over 300 in number), actively participated in the development and publication of large-scale linguistic atlases of national area, Carpathian area, Romance and European area; he also published volumes on the basis of dialectal material.
