Rezumat

There are few and doubtful proofs of the religious musicians’ contributions in the old Romanian area. Yet, they prove the eagerness of some devoted promoters of the proto-Christian chanting, as well as of those whose names and deeds had been lost or forgotten through history. Moreover, the few available data point at some early theoretical researches on sacred music, as well as at early attempts of teaching on the matter. The author approaches Saint Sava’s activity, named also Sava the Goth (the IVth century), who was the first choir singer in the history of the Romanian music. The author also reveals the signifi cance of Jonnus Cassianus’ (IV-V centuries, born in Dobrogea) contribution to the formation of sacred principles. The theological and musical works of Nicetas of Remesiana (IV-V centuries), a lettered missionary of Latin formation, surnamed by Vasile Parvan and Nicolae Iorga “a Daco-Roman apostle” are widely approached in the paper. The work ends up with the analysis of the contribution made by Gerardo don Sagredo’s (XIth century) who was a Banate bishop dealing with the acoustics’ art role in the educational-ecclesiastic system, as well as with the practical enforcement of the common educational principles.
