Rezumat | ||||||
In “IN MEMORIAM MIRCEA SNEGUR”, the author discusses the role of Mircea Snegur as a promoter for the correct name of the Romanian language in the Republic of Moldova. The complex relationship between the author and the late Moldovan President is explored, marked by alternating periods of warmth and tension. The article elucidates Snegur as a significant player in the establishment of the new independent state post the Gorbachev reforms, and the pressing change in the balance of power and press. The author reflects on Snegur’s trajectory, from being a part of the higher echelons of the communist party to championing national causes: national symbols, declared sovereignty, rejection of pro-soviet referendums, and other imperial strangleholds. |
