Background. Toxic osteomyelitis of the jaw is a special entity of odontogenic osteomyelitis, which occurs mainly post-extraction, without clear delimitation and without a tendency to cure in the long term and occurs on the background of consuming drugs containing phosphorus, iodine and ephedrine. Objective of the study. Study of the etiology and clinical picture of toxic osteomyelitis, correlated with narcotic substance abuse. Material and Methods. The statistical data of the medical files from the archive of the CNSPMU emergency hospital, the results of the laboratory analyzes and the radiological data were used. Results. The results of laboratory tests of patients who went to the oro-maxillofacial surgery department during 2017-2021, whose clinical picture coincided with that of chronic osteomyelitis of the jaws, were studied. The selected patients used the drug „perventin”, prepared at home, which includes red phosphorus, iodine and ephedrine, which at high concentrations causes trophic disorders in bone tissue. Preliminarily, in the pre-surgical treatment, a detoxifying course is performed. Conclusion. It was observed that toxic osteomyelitis of the jaws occurs as a result of drug abuse, which includes red phosphorus, iodine and ephedrine. Jaw necrosis results from vasospasm and general intoxication of the body. |
