Rezumat | |||||||
This article presents a batch of 15 clay items stored in the collections of the National Museum of History of Moldova. They were discovered in 1972 during excavations at the Cucoara I site and were initially erroneously attributed to the Eneolithic Gumelnitsa culture. These artifacts can be divided into two groups depending on their shape and size: I – balls, II – “breadcakes”. Several very exact analogies for these types of objects allow us to consider them as belonging to the Noua-Sabatinovka culture. The similarity of their shapes and context with objects found in Căușeni is striking. Their distinguishing feature is a recess made by a finger in the center. This element individualizes them and practically distinguishes them from the group of other clay products from the broad category of “breadcakes”. The group of pieces from Cucoara I is currently the most numerous of those found in a common archaeological layer and context and belongs to the Late Bronze Age in the East Carpathian area. |
