Background. Prehospital care emergency medical services play a significant role in providing healthcare to the population. COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus, which has been declared a pandemic. The objective of the study. Identifying the particularities of the request for the urgent prehospital medical service in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods. The presented study is a narrative synthesis of scientific articles published in an original scientific research format. The main criteria for including the articles are based on the presence of the publications in the information resources available on the Research4Life portal. Results. Global public health measures have been unanimously recognized as effective measures for mitigating the spread of COVID-19. The social distancing practice helped reduce the number of deaths caused by COVID-19, but also limited the access to health services for patients with non-communicable diseases. During the COVID-19 pandemic, several countries reported a 20% increase in the number of calls due to COVID-19 disease and a downward trend in the number of calls caused by emergencies with the most common reasons such as chest pain and dyspnea. Conclusions. During the pandemic, there were identified quantitative and qualitative changes in the structure of the calls characterized by an increase in the number of calls due to COVID-19, followed by a relative decrease in calls due to non-communicable diseases. |
