Post-cesarean scar defect is a common complication in women with a history of cesarean section and a significant risk factor for subsequent pregnancies and, especially, for future births. The prevalence of post-cesarean scar defect varies from 24% to 70% on transvaginal ultrasonography and from 56% to 84% on sonohysterography. Possible risk factors for the development of post-cesarean scar defect include: multiple C-sections, uterine position, labor before cesarean section, and the surgical technique used to close the uterine incision. The predominant symptoms associated with post-cesarean scar defect are abnormal uterine bleeding, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, chronic pelvic pain, and secondary infertility. |
