The article “English Borrowings into Romanian” presents the importance of borrowings that should be studied in all their complexity like all other categories of words. Romanian, perhaps more than any other language, is an insatiable borrower. Whereas the speakers of some languages take pains to exclude foreign words from their lexicons, Romanian seems always to have welcomed them. As the world changes – through invention, discovery, revolution, evolution, or personal transformation – so does the language. The process of borrowing from other languages is due to more or less direct contact of one nation with another, and namely the transition to the market economy, the financial crises and monetary shifts, stages that generated the taking over from English speaking community. It is one of the most conspicuous features of the development of every language. |
