The significance of Romania’s accession to the European Union on January, 1st, 2007, is not to be viewed as a last step of the Romanian authorities in this process, but more like a new beginning in the institutional framework for preparing Romania for the top level European standards in the field of internal affairs, which are defined by the Schengen acquis. Considering all of the above, as well as the geographical position of Romania, it will take certain supplementary preparations and time until Romania’s accession to the Schengen area will be reality. |
