Vesicoureteral reflux is one of the most common congenital malformations of the Renourinary System. An important aspect in the management of vesicoureteral refl ux in children is the prevention of kidney scars that occur as a result of recurrent urinary tract infections. The consequences that may occur are potentially serious such as the arterial hypertension or chronic kidney disease. The main goal in these situations is to preserve kidney function, which is possible by reducing the risk of recurrent urinary tract infections. The purpose of continuous antibiotic prophylaxis in cases of vesicoureteral reflux is to prevent febrile urinary tract infections. The decision whether or not prescribe the continuous antibiotic prophylaxis should take into account the risk factors such as: young age, high grade vesicoureteral refl ux, status of toilet training, lower urinary tract disease (LUTD), female gender and circumcision in the boys. However, the selection of patients who require continuous antibiotic prophylaxis is difficult and risky, which is why we must take into account the recommendations provided in the specialized guidelines |
