În articol sunt prezentate aspecte istorice ale fenomenului de violență în familie și este argumentată necesitatea studierii acestui fenomen în Sectorul Arab din Israel din perspectiva „the exchange/social theory”, elaborată de cercetătorul american Richard J. Gelles. Conceptul de violență în familie nu este clar definit până în prezent, pentru că este un proces complex și multidimensional. Fenomenul în sine este necesar de a fi cercetat din perspectiva unui model general cu o bază vastă de cunoaștere a fiecărui tip de violență. F.I. Nye a realizat extensia științifică a „the exchange/social theory” prin explicarea violenței în familie prin controlul social extern și intern. Considerăm această extensie a fi cea mai potrivită pentru a cerceta fenomenul de violență în familiile din sectorul arab al Israelului.

The article gives historical aspects of phenomenon of family violence and gives and explanation of scientific need to research this phenomenon in Arab Sector of Israel from Richard J. Gelles`s the exchange/social theory. The concept of family violence has unclear configuration. Family violence is considered to be a very complex multidimensional process, that is why it should be researched through full developed casual models. There is a need of a general model of family violence and a large base of knowledge of each type of violence. We consider that family violence should be researched through R.J. Gelles`s the exchange/social theory, with F.I. Nye explanation of external and internal social control. We intend to investigate this phenomenon in Arab Sector of Israel from different perspectives.
